My dad and brother were literally shouting it around the house all day yesterday.

I was saying it the whole game in my best '70s Hollywood war movie German accent.

Yeah me and some friends watched the game yesterday and then did some other stuff. Every activity of the night involved Schweinsteiger.

My favorite pic of the world cup.
Because Schweiny

If a name contains all the parts of "Weiner" and/or "Schwing" it is bound to be awesome.

And "Stig"!

Direct translation is "Pig Climber" but probably more along the lines of "Pig Farmer", I like to think one of his ancestors got the name from a drunken bet.
"HOLT MIEN BIER UNT WATCH DIS!"*
*bad movie German for comedic effect.

Get your German dictionary out and try to translate it. Its translations is much funnier than 'weiner' and/or 'schwing', and the name doesn't sound like either anyway.

How long was he on the ground during the final? 10 minutes? 20?

Don't know if you understand Dutch but hey...
The guy himself is a true legend!

Remember how names like Miller etc. hark back to someone's ancestors being of a certain profession or fame?
Schweinsteiger, much as I appreciate the persona, basically designates "he who mounts pigs". Yeah. That.

To be fair, it also works like a charm when you're doing a Connery.

I don't get how he comes across as someone who goes down too easily. He ain't no Ronaldo, that's for sure.

I'm not saying he was diving - I'm sure he was legitimately hurt for most of those, the fact remains that he was on the ground for a long time during the match. Mark of an aggressive player who's always in the middle of things, I guess.

A fair take at that. I often find myself angry with players who go down when it's not strictly necessary, e. g. Robben when pulled by Tiago. I'd rather see him attempt a shot than falling down to get rid of Tiago as a defender.
